Common Questions

Everything you need to know about Matchpunk.

Is Matchpunk really free?

Yes!

Right now, MatchPunk is meant to be used with standard 2-player versions of Magic: The Gathering, TableTop, and Yu Gi Oh!. However, new games will be added all the time, with a 4+ player option very soon.

You create a Card that represents YOU in the matches you play. You are required to create a Card for any game you play using MatchPunk. When you play a match, you are “wagering” your Card. If you lose, your opponent is recorded as “owning” your Card. But don’t worry. It’s just for bragging rights…and you can win it back the next match you play.

A Group is composed of people who want to get together to play face-to-face tabletop games supported by MatchPunk.

For example, if you have a group of friends that plays Pokemon regularly, you can create a MatchPunk Group for Pokemon with your friends as members.

As another example, a local Game Store may create its own MatchPunk group, with people who come to the store all signing up as members. Be sure to ask your store if they have a Group!

All Face-to-Face matches are played as part of a Group. In the Group, each member’s Win-Loss Record, Elo Rating and Group Ranking are calculated after every match. Wins and Losses in one group do not affect the Win-Loss record, Rating, or Ranking in any other group.

Groups all have a private (Group members only) chat feature.

When you first sign up with MatchPunk and create a card for a game, you are automatically part of the General Group for that game. You can always play a match against anyone as part of this group.

A MatchPunk Group Leader (the one who created the Group) can create an Event in that Group. When an Event is created, it is shown as “Upcoming”. The Group Leader can start the Event at any time, making the event “Active”. Any games played as part of the Group during an Event contribute to the Rating and Ranking in the Event as well as the Group. The Group Leader can end the event at any time, making the event “Past”. At this point, the Rating and Ranking in the Event are frozen and cannot be changed.

Events are a great way for a Group Leader to schedule a tournament or challenge competition in the Group.

Yes. You can edit your Card at any time. Also, in your Profile, you can change your Username, Password, or Profile Picture.

When you sit across from your opponent, select the Game you’re playing and the Group you are both members of. Then tap the FACE TO FACE button. A 4-digit code is displayed on both your apps. Once one of you enters the code from the other player’s app, your game begins. Use the Scorekeeper like a calculator. The app will display scores for you and your opponent.

At any time, one of you can press END GAME. You will both be asked who won (you or your opponent). If you both agree, then the winner gets the loser’s card and the results are recorded. If there is a disagreement or you both select Draw, then the game is not recorded, and nothing changes.

The fake account would need to be part of the Group, and it would be obvious to the Group Leader that a fake account was created that only plays one player and always loses.

Group Leaders have the ability to remove members of a Group that are cheating. Also, the cheater risks their

account being cancelled entirely.
